Registered nurses who graduated from an NLNAC-accredited program, hold a license to practice in Pennsylvania, and meet program requirements are eligible for direct articulation into the Nursing program. These nurses are granted credit for nursing coursework completed. They may be granted up to 75 credits for coursework (nursing plus support courses) completed at a community college or all coursework completed at at four year institution. Nurses who have previously completed a baccalaureate education in another major are required to complete only the required nursing and support courses. In all cases, the residency requirement applies-the final 30 credits of the degree must be taken at York College. The program is online with coursework completed over consecutive 7-week sessions.

Requirements for Graduation:

To be eligible for graduation, students majoring in Nursing must complete a minimum of 120 credits, achieve a cumulative grade point average of 2.8, and satisfy the College’s residency requirements. General Education requirements of the college do not apply to RN-BSN students with an associates degree.

Required Major Courses:

Credit is transferred or granted for the following courses based on the student’s RN licensure and previously successfully completed college credits (51 credits). Nursing majors must achieve a grade of 2.0 or higher in all required courses in the major.

BIO 220/221 Human Anatomy and Physiology I 4 credit hours
BIO 222/223 Human Anatomy and Physiology II 4 credit hours
BIO 230/231 Microbiology for Allied Health 4 credit hours
CHM 122/123 Principles of General and Organic Chemistry 4 credit hours
NUR 201 Human Development and Health Care 3 credit hours
NUR 202 Nutrition in Health Care 3 credit hours
NUR 210/211 Basic Principles in Nursing Practice 5 credit hours

Required 6 Nursing Core Courses plus at least 4 elective courses must be taken at York College of Pennsylvania (30 credits):

NUR 321 Transitional Concepts for Registered Nurses 3 credit hours
NUR 331 Complementary and Alternative Therapies for Healthcare Professionals 3 credit hours
NUR 332 Research Concepts for Registered Nurses 3 credit hours

NUR 456 Community Health Concepts and Issues for Registered Nurses 3 credit hours

Recommended Electives:

Students may choose any 12 credits of elective courses.

* Additional elective courses may be required with the number dependent on total needed to meet the required 120 credits.

Note: BEH 260 Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences and Soc 100 Introduction to Sociology are required courses and must be taken at York College if credit has not been granted for prior coursework (transfer credits).

Suggested Course Sequence:

Students in the RN to BSN major do not follow a regular course sequence due to the individual credits that have been transferred to York College and the requirements that an individual needs to complete the degree. Students must work closely with their Academic Advisor to establish a degree completion plan.

York College of Pennsylvania - RN to BSN Checklist:

PLEASE NOTE: The minimum number of required credits to meet the residency rules is 30 credits (see 10 core courses). Students must also meet the total number of program credits (120 credits) and may need additional courses beyond the core to get to this number. These additional credits can be satisfied from any of the program elective courses.
