By combining a solid business education with significant intercultural courses and content, the International Business program provides students with an opportunity to travel abroad and explore the distinct cultures, learn a new language, understand business practices, and learn how to sell and/or procure products from around the world.  The content of this major equips students with a diverse set of employable skills-quantitative, communication, international awareness, an interdisciplinary and liberal arts perspective-that organizations seek in their fresh recruits.  Within this program, students will concentrate their Bachelor of Arts degree by choosing a foreign language minor (French, German or Spanish), an international studies minor, or a cultural studies track.  Elective credits allow students to round out their educational experience by focusing on government relations, international economic development, or even the United Nations.

Demand is strong for international job content in national economics, government policy and relations, accounting, finance and marketing-related positions as US companies seek more global opportunity.  Additional career possibilities include import/export, sales, event and trade show planning, management consulting, product marketing, strategic planning, market management, tourism, hospitality.

Requirements for Graduation:

To be eligible for graduation, students majoring in International Business must complete a minimum of 121 credits, achieve a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher, and complete the General Education Requirements of the College. A minimum grade of 2.0 is required for First Year Seminar and all courses taken as part of Foundations. Courses used to complete General Education Requirements may not be taken on a pass/fail basis.

The General Education Requirements of the college require students to successfully complete First Year Seminar, Foundations, Disciplinary Perspectives, and a Constellation. Students who enter the college with 30 credit hours completed will not take a First Year Seminar course and therefore must take an additional 3 credits for graduation. Transfer students that are awarded 60 or more credits upon acceptance to York College will not be required to complete a Constellation.

Students majoring in International Business must achieve a 2.0 or higher in each General Business Component course and a 2.0 average in the International Business component courses. In addition, students must attain a 2.0 or higher in each course that serves as a prerequisite to a subsequent Business course. (Refer to the course description for specific prerequisites.) Failure to attain a 2.0 in prerequisite courses may lengthen the time to graduation.  Students must also earn a grade of 2.0 or higher in the senior capstone course, BUS 494 . This may allow for a second major or a minor which must be completed with a cumulative 2.0 average.  A total of 48 credits (including FYS, Foundations, Disciplinary Perspectives, and Constellation courses) must be taken outside of the Graham School of Business.  Students who are waived from FYS must complete 3 credits of non-business coursework.  Students graduating with a declared concentration in International Business may not simultaneously declare a minor in Business Administration or International Business.
