HIS 340 Pre-Columbian Civilizations: The Incas
This course provides an in-depth study of the Incan Indian civilization from the year 1000 B.C. to the arrival of the Spanish in 1530. Students will analyze historical and archaeological records, with a particular emphasis on recent scholarship in the field. Both historical and archaeological records are presented and interpreted. Students will examine Inca cosmology; subsistence strategies; social structure; intellectual, artistic, and technological achievements. Recent research concerning decipherment will be discussed.
