BIO 230 Microbiology for Allied Health

The course is primarily the study of organisms which can only be seen with a microscope. The goal of this course is to provide a basic understanding of the principles and techniques of microbiology. This will equip students with knowledge of the practice of microbiology that can be beneficial and useful in their professional and personal lives. This course will emphasize and illustrate in a practical manner microbiological principles using pathogenic bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, from a public health viewpoint. This course is designed using the learning goals and curriculum guidelines from the American Society of Microbiology recommended for nursing and allied health students. This course counts as a free elective for Biology majors, and may not be used to fulfill an upper-division elective. Prerequisite: BIO 142 or BIO 150 with a grade of 2.0 or higher
