Student Life

Student life programs and services are driven by the York College mission, and the Student Affairs Division has as its primary goal a commitment to providing a campus environment that is developmental to student learning and student growth. Departments and Services

Bookstore

The College Bookstore is dedicated to providing service for the diverse needs of our campus community.  The bookstore provides the academic tools required by the college.  These include, but are not limited to, textbooks, school supplies, imprinted logo gifts, graduation regalia, and clothing.  The bookstore also provides a convenience store, which services the students during the evening and weekend hours.

Campus Safety

The Department of Campus Safety is charged with creating a safe and secure educational environment. Located in the Manor Northeast lobby, the Department operates 24-hours-a-day, seven days-a-week and patrols the campus regularly. Officers are tasked with responding to calls for service and assistance, enforcing College policy and investigating all reported criminal activity on campus.

The Department publishes an annual security report that includes all crime statistics for the year and certain security policy statements, in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act. The Department of Campus Safety also provides a comprehensive crime prevention and education program for the College.

A 24-hour-a-day escort program for students to all campus locations is available. In addition, the Department operates the West Campus Shuttle, which transports students between the main and west campus. The department also coordinates and manages parking permits, bicycle permits and ID cards.  Detailed information is found on the Campus Safety website.

Counseling Services

Counseling Services advances the overall wellness of students through individual and group counseling sessions, consultation, crisis intervention, and specialized referrals. All services are provided by mental health professionals. Services can be scheduled via phone at 717-815-6437 or in person during regular business hours.

Dining Services

Compass Group-USA through its Chartwells Division works closely with the Student Affairs Division to offer, seven days a week, meals that will be both enjoyable and economical to students. All enrolled students have the ability to participate in the various campus meal plan options which are supported by several food and beverage locations on campus.

Health Services

The Health Services office is committed to providing high-quality care and services for all of our students. Nurses in the Health Center are available to evaluate you and schedule visits with our physician or nurse practitioner as needed. Our staff also coordinates with your home physicians to provide care for chronic conditions and make referrals to local specialists or hospitals when necessary.

All registered students are eligible to use the Health Center. All students are required to have an admission physical, current PPD skin test, and immunizations on file in the Health Center, which is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Intercultural Student Life and Global Programming

The Office of Intercultural Student Life and Global Programming (ISLGP) creates educational and social programs that promote diversity and global awareness on campus.  Our office also provides international student services.   The office works with students, faculty and staff, and the greater York community to encourage the exploration of all cultures and intersectional identities.  Our inclusive programming challenges students to take a more active role in their holistic development. ISLGP also manages the York Cares Food Pantry and Regalia Loan program for students experiencing basic needs insecurity.  Additionally, ISLGP oversees The Office of Spiritual Life and The Doris and Bernard Gordon Center of Jewish Student Life.  

Residence Life

Residence Life at York College is an integral part of the college learning experience. The Residence Life program seeks to provide a comfortable, safe living environment in the form of traditional residence halls, suite and apartment-style living.  Our residence facilities provide an experience that is conducive to supporting academic success, individual growth, and group interaction and development while seeking to promote ideals of respect, inclusion, understanding, and community.

York College of Pennsylvania is a residential college. As such, all undergraduate students are required to live on campus, unless they are enrolled as a commuting student. This includes transfer and readmitted students. Commuters are those students who reside from the legal residence of their parent/guardian within a 35-mile radius of the campus. Student Conduct

The College student conduct process is designed as educational, and encourages and promotes self-discipline and accountability. Disciplinary action can be taken for misconduct/incidents while on or off campus. This includes student misconduct that is a violation of College standards, regulations, or the law and that is detrimental to the College’s lawful mission and interests. Spiritual Life Activities

The Office of Spiritual Life works to promote education interactions between students of different cultures, national origin, or religion.  Spiritual Life focuses on helping students consider the spiritual dimensions of life, supporting their exercise of religious practices, and providing convenient access to spiritual counseling, worship, and spiritual guidance on campus.  Spiritual Life hosts interfaith programs to grow understanding and respect among people of all faiths.

Jewish Student Life

The Doris and Bernard Gordon Center for Jewish Student Life is committed to fostering vibrant and inclusive Jewish life at York College.  Through cultural and educational programs, social gatherings, and informal interactions; it seeks to create a Jewish community that is meaningful, welcoming, and fun.

Student Involvement Opportunities

Athletics and Recreation

The Athletics and Recreation department provides opportunities for students of all interests and abilities to participate in recreation, athletics and wellness activities in effort to build a lifelong foundation for health and vigor. The Department is housed in the state-of-the-art 170,000 square foot Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center, which features a three-court field house with elevated indoor jogging track, a gymnasium that seats 1,700 spectators, a natatorium with 12 swimming lanes, a 7,600 square foot fitness center, a 32-foot climbing wall, a racquetball court, multiple purpose rooms and a wrestling room.

York College offers 23 varsity sports that compete in the highly competitive Capital Athletic Conference. The Spartans have 11 men’s and 12 women’s programs and compete in NCAA Division III. York consistently contends for Capital Athletic Conference championships while the Spartans regularly earn bids to the NCAA Division III national tournaments.

York College’s Sports and Recreation program is designed to enhance the college experience by providing opportunities for all students to either participate in or witness intercollegiate, recreational, or intramural sporting events. Our exciting sports and recreation programs are geared towards student’s interests and aimed to enhance overall school spirit.

The Physical Activity and Wellness program (PAW), is the elective education program at York College of Pennsylvania, where students earn academic credit by taking physical activity classes designed to promote health and wellness.  PAW offers a wide array of courses that provide opportunities for students to develop the knowledge and skills needed to successfully engage in self-directed physical activity, fitness, dance, aquatics, and sport recreational activities. The York College Physical Activity and Wellness program empowers the students to live an active, healthy lifestyle, which is centered on the mind-body connection and the importance of wellness as a lifelong commitment through regular and sustained physical activity.

Student Activities and Orientation

The Office of Student Activities and Orientation facilitate students’ transition to college and provide a variety of co-curricular experiences during their time at York College. The Office creates participation, volunteer and leadership opportunities for students through approximately  90 clubs and organizations including but not limited to; fraternities, sororities, Student Senate, Campus Activities Board (CAB), ExCEL Leadership Series and Orientation programming.

Service Learning

 York College is committed to providing service learning opportunities that will allow students to contribute to the community while obtaining valuable experience and enhanced employment credentials.  Volunteer programs at York reflect that students can obtain valuable life experience through service learning and that employers frequently seek graduates who have been constructively involved in their community.  Service learning opportunities are available in a variety of organizations and can be selected based on a student’s major or area of academic interest.  Students interested in participating in service learning should contact the Career Development Center, Student Activities Office, or the Center for Leadership Development.
