ECE 421 Analysis and Design of Communication Systems

Spring

This course explores the basic approaches and techniques used in the analysis and design of communication systems. The primary focus of this course is for students to learn how information is converted to an analog or a digital signal to be transmitted over a communication channel and how to retrieve the information back from the received signal in the presence of noise and interference. Topics covered include characterization of the channel, analysis of noise and its effect on information transmission, pulse shaping, sampling, analysis of bit error rate for different modulations, and mixing. Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering majors only. Prerequisite: 2.0 or higher in ECE 332  and ECE 334 .
