Candidates for the MBA degree must complete 39 credit hours, divided into MBA foundation courses (9 credits), MBA core courses (18 credit) and elective courses (12 hours). In addition, up to 15 credit hours of business fundamental courses may need to be taken depending on a studentʼs undergraduate coursework. Those candidates with undergraduate coursework in a business discipline may be permitted to waive some or all of the required foundation courses, as described below.

Some or all of the foundation courses may be waived if the student has completed similar undergraduate courses at York College or other accredited institutions with a grade of “C” or better within five years of the date of application. A course may also be waived by challenging the course through credit by examination or by earning a 50th percentile or higher score in the CLEP examination. (Information about the CLEP examination can be secured by contacting the Registrarʼs Office or visiting the Registrarʼs area of the York College website,

MBA 505  may be waived for York College current business majors or alumni earning a business degree within 3 years of their application to the MBA Program.

MBA Core Courses (18 credits)

Up to 3 of the following required core credit hours may be waived depending upon a studentʼs undergraduate degree. A minimum of 33 credit hours is required to complete the MBA degree. Students may have to complete additional elective courses to reach the 33-credit minimum.

Concentration Elective Courses (12 credits)

Students must complete 3 additional graduate level concentration courses and MBA 598 , which is a Directed Study in the area of concentration to complete the degree requirements. If all three courses are taken in one concentration area, then that studentʼs degree will be designated as having completed that concentration. This will be noted on the graduate transcript. Students may complete the requirements for more than one concentration area.

Students completing the Management concentration may complete no more than 2 of the following courses: MBA 577 , MBA 586 , and MBA 591 . Students completing MBA 577 , MBA 586  and MBA 591  will earn the Continuous Improvement concentration, not the Management concentration.

Self-Designed Concentration

Students choose and complete any three courses that fit their personal, academic, and career goals from the other concentration electives. They also work with a graduate faculty member to develop an appropriate MBA Directed Study.
