History Minor

The History minor provides students with the basis for historical thinking and methodology. A History minor offers students in many majors the opportunity to engage in study of relevant historical topics connected to contemporary issues; to further develop additional evidence-based critical thinking and research skills; and to further develop valued communication skills. The History minor can additionally prepare students seeking careers in law, government and politics; including national security; non-governmental and nonprofit organizations; business; and journalism and publishing.

Requirements (18 credits)

Minor Electives I

Students must complete 3 credits of the following:

HIS 101 The Foundation of the West 3 credit hours
HIS 102 The West in the World 3 credit hours

Minor Electives II

Students must complete 3 credits of the following:

HIS 111 American History from Colonization to Civil War 3 credit hours
HIS 112 American History from Civil War to Global Power 3 credit hours

Minor Electives III

Students must complete 12 credits of HIS courses. At least 9 credits must be at the 200 level or higher.
