Environmental Horticulture Minor

The Environmental Horticulture Minor offers foundational training in the botanical, ecological and production sciences that support all practices of horticulture. This academic program enables students to prepare for careers related to the plant industry, environment stewardship and/or environmental education. Minor electives allow students to focus on their personal and professional goals.

Requirements (18-19 credits)

HRT 100 Plant Science 4 credit hours
HRT 200 Introduction to Environmental Horticulture 4 credit hours
BIO 142 Molecules, Genes and Cells 4 credit hours
Equivalent Biology courses may count with instructor approval.

HRT 310 Economic Botany 4 credit hours
HRT 340 Plant Pathology 4 credit hours

HRT 350 Landscape Plants, Design and Management 4 credit hours

Courses available with a chemistry prerequisite of CHM122 or CHM 234:

HRT 320 Soil Science and Fertility 4 credit hours
HRT 330 Plant Nutrition and Physiology 4 credit hours
HRT 370 Plant Propagation 4 credit hours
HRT 450 Plant Biotechnology and Improvement 4 credit hours

Minors are welcome to take any of the following additional courses from the Environmental Horticulture major to augment their minor, provided they meet the course prerequisites:
