The Donald and Dorothy Stabler Nursing Program offers a baccalaureate degree program that leads to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Students are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses) exam at the end of the program. Nursing students at York College participate in a rigorous and relevant program of study in the sciences and nursing, as well as, general education courses in the arts, humanities, foreign culture, and the behavioral and social sciences. An online RN-BSN program is available for registered nurses.

The Baccalaureate Program in Nursing is approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The Nursing major is a highly structured and academically intensive program. It requires motivation, investment of time, and a strong commitment to learning. Desirable professional qualities include aptitude, creativity, self-direction, self-discipline, discretion, integrity, tolerance, flexibility, optimistic outlook, and evidence of good physical and mental health.

Published annually, the Nursing Student Handbook is for all baccalaureate-nursing students at York College of Pennsylvania. The handbook serves as a guide to established policies and practices of The Stabler Department of Nursing, in conjunction with, the College Catalog and the College student Handbook. Nursing students are required to be aware of, and accept responsibility for, the information and policies contained therein. It is important to note that in order to progress to, and continue in clinical coursework; students must achieve an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0, and a cumulative GPA of 2.8, in their five pre-requisite science courses. Course failures (final grade of less than 2.0) could delay clinical progression and may result in dismissal from the program.

Program-Specific Degree Requirements: To be eligible for graduation, students majoring in Nursing must complete a minimum of 121 credits, achieve a cumulative grade point average of 2.8, and must achieve a grade of 2.0 or higher in all required courses in the major.

Constellation Requirements

The Constellation requirement is met when a student completes four courses from a minimum of three disciplines within the Constellation requirements. Students who transfer in 60 credits or more at the time of admission to the college will be waived from the Constellation requirement, except for Education majors. The waiver applies to the requirement for graduation but does not waive the credits to graduate; students need to meet the overall bachelor’s degree credit requirement.

All students majoring in Nursing will take NUR 450 (a High Impact Practice and Innovation course) which will fulfill both a major requirement and 3 credits of the constellation requirement for any constellation.
