Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, M.S.N.

A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who specializes in the diagnosis and management of patients with mental health conditions.  PMHNPs acquire advanced skills in health assessment, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic mental health problems through a curriculum that provides extensive clinical experience and role preparation. PMHNPs deliver comprehensive mental health care to clients in a variety of settings.

  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Diagnose and treat acute and chronic mental health conditions
  • Coordinate patients’ overall health care
  • Teach/coach patients for healthier lifestyle management

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Role - Concentration Courses


In addition to the core requirements, students who select the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner role will complete 27 credits of PMHNP role concentration courses, including 14 credits (784 hours) of direct care clinical. The program consists of a total of 50 credits.
