Reading Specialist (PK-12) Post-Baccalaureate Certificate

This program challenges education professionals to build expertise in reading instruction, childhood and adolescent literature, literacy program development, and the application of these strategies in the classroom. Graduates will be distinguished as highly effective literacy experts in their schools and organization.  

Candidates in the Reading Specialist Certificate program must complete two semesters (six credits) of practicum experience. All reading specialization courses must be completed prior to the first semester of reading practicum. Reading practica are completed following completion of specialization coursework. Updated clearances (within one year of practicum) are required for practicum experience completed in local districts. Guidelines for reading practicum will be provided by a program advisor.

Candidates with active PDE Teaching Certificates at the conclusion of their programs who also successfully complete the associated PRAXIS examination will be eligible to apply for the PK-12 Reading Specialist Certification.
