Supply Chain Operations Management, B.S.

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs of Study

Supply chain operations management is an integrated business approach that involves managing three flows in business – material, information, and financial flow between suppliers, manufacturers, retailers and the end customer/consumer. Shrinking product life cycles, globalization, and greater customer expectations have led businesses to focus on their supply chains more than ever. In today’s globally competitive market, businesses have recognized that the competition for consumers and market share is no longer business versus business, but supply chain versus supply chain. As business becomes more complex and globalized, there is a demand for professionals with the skills to improve the products and services while simultaneously reducing the cost of providing them.

The York College Supply Chain Operations Management major equips students with the necessary skills to identify, analyze, and implement improvements throughout the supply chain. The program of study is built upon four pillars. The liberal arts pillar helps students develop their interpersonal skills while becoming familiar with the culture, customs, values and traditions of people around the world specifically related to businesses. The common professional component pillar provides students with the relevant theory and application of management skills used in all businesses; such as accounting, economics, finance, operations, information systems, marketing, strategy, and business law. The continuous improvement pillar builds knowledge and skills used to improve operations in organization. Students learn to analyze business processes and apply Lean/Six Sigma and Total Quality Management tools to improve performance. The supply chain integration pillar provides students with operational knowledge in sourcing, transportation, model building, production planning and Enterprise Resource Planning (e.g., SAP S/4HANA) skills that enable students to optimize the trade-offs that must be considered in developing a highly competitive supply chain. In addition, electives allow students to prepare and take professional certification exams prior to graduation.
