Human Resource Management encompasses the processes and systems used to manage talent within an organization. In order to gain a competitive advantage, organizations need to attract, retain, and develop highly skilled and engaged employees. Organizations also need to manage the “people issues” that arise when individuals come together and become members of a group. Human Resource professionals are key players in attaining both goals. They are the link between an organization’s leaders and employees. Students in the Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) with a concentration in Human Resource Management will learn the theoretical and legal bases of Human Resource processes and how to apply that knowledge in the 21st century workplace. Specific coursework includes the subfields of recruitment & selection, workforce development, employment law and labor relations.
Requirements for Graduation:
To be eligible for graduation, students majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management must complete a minimum of 120 credits, achieve a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher, and complete the General Education Requirements of the College. A minimum grade of 2.0 is required for First Year Seminar and all courses taken as part of Foundations. Courses used to complete General Education Requirements may not be taken on a pass/fail basis.
The General Education Requirements of the college require students to successfully complete First Year Seminar, Foundations (FCO 103 will be a required co-requisite with FCO 105 for students who have a high school GPA below 3.20), Disciplinary Perspectives, and a Constellation. Students who enter the college with 30 credit hours completed will not take a First Year Seminar course and therefore must take an additional 3 credits for graduation. Transfer students that are awarded 60 or more credits upon acceptance to York College will not be required to complete a Constellation.
Students majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management must maintain a 2.0 average in the General Business Component courses and a 2.0 average in the Human Resource Management component courses. In addition, students must attain a 2.0 or higher in each course that serves as a prerequisite to a subsequent business course, (refer to the course description for specific prerequisites). Failure to attain a 2.0 in prerequisite courses may lengthen the time to graduation. Students must also earn a grade of 2.0 or higher in their senior capstone course, BUS 494 . This major requires a second major or a minor be completed with a cumulative 2.0 average.
Students who are waived from FYS 100 , MAT 102 , or other courses must complete an equivalent number of credits. Students who are able to count courses for multiple degree requirements must also complete additional credits to achieve the required total of 120 in order to graduate. Students graduating with a declared major in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management may not simultaneously declare a minor in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Management, or a second major in Leadership and Management.
