Human Services Minor

The human services minor provides students with an interdisciplinary view of social issues as well as the knowledge, values and skills needed to assist people. The courses required for this minor help students acquire basic competencies such as communication, counseling and helping skills, and program development and evaluation. This minor complements many of the majors at YCP including psychology, sociology, recreation leadership, education and human resource management.

Requirements (18 credits):

HSV 100 Introduction to Human Services 3 credit hours
HSV 240 Theory and Policy for the Human Service Professional 3 credit hours
HSV 345 Helping Techniques 3 credit hours
HSV 355 Program Design and Evaluation 3 credit hours

Choose 3 credits from the following courses:

GER 312 Psychological Aspects of Aging 3 credit hours
HSV 250 Lifecourse Development for the Human Services 3 credit hours
NUR 201 Human Development and Health Care 3 credit hours
PSY 221 Child and Adolescent Development 3 credit hours
PSY 321 Developmental Science 3 credit hours

Choose 3 credits from the following courses:

CJA 110 Juvenile Delinquency 3 credit hours (with permission of instructor)
GER 320 Working with Older Adults 3 credit hours
HSV 370 Case Management 3 credit hours
HSV 415 Grant Writing for Non-profit Agencies 3 credit hours
