Post-Masterʼs Certificate

A Post-Masterʼs Certificate can be earned in the Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (A-GNP) track.

Requirements for the Post Masterʼs A-GNP Program

The qualifications for participation include completion of a baccalaureate and master’s degree in nursing from a CNEA or CCNE-program from a regionally accredited institution, or the equivalent institution, as determined by The Stabler Department of Nursing faculty. Transcripts will be reviewed to ensure applicants meet all criteria. If course work is not comparable, additional courses may be required.

Post Masterʼs students must complete 56 hours of clinical experience with a nurse practitioner, prior to enrolling in the first clinical course in the fall (NUR 522/523 ). Students who have not met this requirement will register for one (1) credit of independent study during the summer semester. The purpose of this experience is to practice history taking and physical exam skills. Students who completed the 56 hours of clinical experience in a previous course may be required to perform a complete physical exam demonstration in the summer prior to enrollment in the course.

The Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing requires a 45-hour pharmacology course in order to apply for prescriptive privileges after graduation from a Nurse Practitioner program. The course will not be accepted by the Board if it was completed greater than five years prior to application for privileges. A post masterʼs student who plans to seek privileges in the State of Pennsylvania after graduation, and whose Advanced Pharmacology course will be older than five years by the time of graduation, will be required to re-take a course that is approved by the PA State Board of Nursing and the A-GNP program director. If privileges will be sought in a state that does not have this requirement, the student will be required to take a continuing education pharmacology refresher course. These requirements must be met prior to enrollment in NUR 522/523 .

Students who are transferring a health assessment course from another school will be required to attend a female and male genital exam workshop offered in the fall semester prior to performing these exams in a clinical setting.
