The Business Analytics major prepares the business professional for analyzing and managing all types of organizational and business processes and operations.  Business Analytics, or simply analytics or big data, is the use of data, information technology, statistical analysis, quantitative methods, and computer-based models to help managers gain improved insight into business operations and make better, fact-based decisions.  Business analytics is the process of transforming data through analysis and insights into information for decision making and problem solving.  Business analytics is supported by various tools such as Microsoft Excel, various Excel software add-ins, commercial statistical software packages, and more complex business intelligence software that integrate data with analytical modeling.  Tools and techniques of business analytics are used across all areas of business in a wide variety of organizations to identify and analyze opportunities and improve the management of customer relationships, financial and marketing activities, human capital, supply chains, manufacturing, service industries, and many other areas of business.

 Requirements for Graduation:

To be eligible for graduation, students majoring in Business Analytics must complete a minimum of 120 credits, achieve a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher, and complete the General Education Requirements of the College. A minimum grade of 2.0 is required for First Year Seminar and all courses taken as part of Foundations. Courses used to complete General Education Requirements may not be taken on a pass/fail basis.

The General Education Requirements of the college require students to successfully complete First Year Seminar, Foundations, Disciplinary Perspectives, and a Constellation. Students who enter the college with 30 credit hours completed will not take a First Year Seminar course and therefore must take an additional 3 credits for graduation. Transfer students that are awarded 60 or more credits upon acceptance to York College will not be required to complete a Constellation.

Students majoring in Business Analytics must maintain a 2.0 average in the General Business Component Courses, and a 2.0 average in the Business Analytics Component Courses. In addition, students must maintain a 2.0 or higher in each course that serves as a prerequisite to a subsequent business course.  (Refer to the course description section of the catalog for specific prerequisites.)  Failure to attain a 2.0 in prerequisite courses may lengthen the time to graduation.  Students must also earn a grade of 2.0 or higher in their senior capstone course, QBA420 Business Intelligence and Advanced Analytics.  Students graduating with a declared major in Business Analytics may not simultaneously declare a minor in Business Analytics.
