MAT 320 Number Theory



This course is a bridge connecting Calculus to Elementary Analysis and Abstract Algebra. Its main subjects are integers and rational numbers, divisibility, prime numbers, congruences, Diophantine equations, and Gauss’ quadratic reciprocity law. Through the course, students will learn how to write a formal proof in a concrete setting and also use the method of contradiction and induction to prove theorems. Prerequisite: MAT 235 Â with a grade of 2.0 or higher.
