MHA 505 Professional Competencies in Diverse Populations

This course involves discussion and analysis of the impact of ethnic and cultural issues on healthcare delivery systems. Critical analysis of the different cultural perceptions of health and illness is encouraged, and approaches for developing a cultural sensitivity are explored. The student is expected to gain knowledge of and respect for the cultural differences of patients when formulating treatment plans. The student will be required to research a chosen topic on cultural competency and develop a synthesis paper regarding the application of the topic to the care and treatment of diverse patient populations. 3 credit hours
