ART 390 Art and Exchange in the Global Middle AgesFall Even-Numbered Years
This course examines the artistic monuments that emerged from cultural interactions among various groups in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas during the Middle Ages. Key themes include pilgrimage, war, trade, mass migrations, and shifts in art production, challenging the misconception that people stayed close to home. Through the critical study of primary sources and contemporary scholarship, this course will investigate how popular misunderstandings shape the use of medieval imagery in contemporary visual culture.Â
