MED 573 Traumatic Brain Injury

Fall, Spring, Summer

In the US, more than 3.5 million brain injuries occur annually, and over 5.3 million people live with a brain injury‐related disability. Familiarity with brain injuries has likely increased due to the attention they’ve received surrounding military conflicts, contact sports, etc., but the spectrum of types and impact, as well treatment needs and strategies is often less well known. This course will address these limitations by providing an understanding of the brain and various types of brain injury, their impact, and treatment strategies to address needs at various stages of recovery including the impact on families and caregivers. A particular focus will be complex neurobehavioral issues and the application of behavior analysis, within an interdisciplinary team environment. 3 credit hours
