CRW 285 Uncreative Writing

Fall and Spring

We have always written by sampling, remixing, even stealing, from Shakespeare liberally borrowing words and ideas from authors, to blackout poetry, to machine‐written novels. This course will focus on those techniques and many others in the production of original creative work, using both analog and digital techniques to remix and transform texts into new art and provide a new understanding of the creative process. Students will consider the history, ethics, and legality of literary techniques such as sampling and remixing, along with the artistic value of work produced using them.
