CVE 330 Introduction to Geotechnical EngineeringSummer
An introduction to the field of geotechnical engineering, focused on soil mechanics - the study of soil properties which govern the use of soil as a construction or foundation material. The course is devoted to describing and classifying soils, identifying basic physical and mechanical structural characteristics, analyzing soil stresses, analyzing flow through porous media, and determining consolidation settlement, earth pressures, and slope stability. Concepts will also be introduced for foundation design, use of geosynthetics, and soil improvement techniques, based upon the applicable engineering principles and recognition of the fundamental concepts of soil behavior. Prerequisite: EGR 264 . Corequisite: CVE 331 .
