SPN 308 Tradition and Change in Spanish America
Through movies, essays, short literary texts, and interviews with well-known personalities from Spanish America, students will explore the rich diversity of the region’s many cultures. Students will learn about key moments and events in Spanish American history, they will learn about the geography, peoples, and cultures of the region, and they will explore such contemporary topics as immigration, the environment, women’s and indigenous movements, the arts, government and politics, religion, food, as well as Spanish America’s relationship with the United States since the beginning of the 19th Century. Prerequisite: SPN 201 or SPN 202 or permission of the instructor.
