This course is a survey of the development of modern European art from the neoclassical revival during the Age of Reason to fin-de-siecle symbolism and expressionism. Emphasis is placed on studying the interrelationship of politics, economics, society, and art. Topics explored include Romanticism, the invention of photography, Impressionism, Symbolism, and Art Nouveau.
