ART 389 History of Graphic Design

Spring Semester

This course examines the cultural, historical, political, and technological history of graphic design from the late 19th century to the present. Emphasis is on studying the relationship between societal trends and the appearance of mass communication. Topics discussed include design during the early industrial age, avant-garde influence on graphic design, American modernism, the advent of corporate identity design, and postmodern graphic design. Prerequisite: ONE of the following: ART 101 , ART202, ART203, ART 204 , ART 205 .
