Program Educational Objectives
- A broad knowledge of literature of texts across diverse genres (e.g., the nonfiction essay, poetry, autobiography, novel, memoir, film, plays, etc.), cultures and historical periods.
- The ability to analyze and interpret literature through various critical and theoretical frameworks including rhetorical, interpretive, historical, cultural, supporting courses social approaches to language and texts.
- Knowledge of the literary terms, key concepts, and craft elements of one or more genres of imaginative writing supporting courses.
- The ability to conduct research involving both primary and secondary sources and the critical thinking skills needed to develop coherent arguments and then defend those arguments in clear, effective prose, through revision and collaborative peer review.
- A basic understanding of the linguistic elements of language itself and of language variation.
