Premedical Sciences, B.S. Learning Outcomes


Program Educational Objectives

The learning outcomes of the Premedical Sciences degree are built to align with the American Association of Medical Colleges Core Competencies for Entering Medical Student and with the Principles of Veterinary Medical Ethics of the American Veterinary Medical Association, both of which offer professional outcomes applicable to the other professional career paths the students will be trained in:

  • Students will acquire core knowledge and skills in the natural sciences to solve problems related to molecular and macro systems including biomolecules, molecules, cells, and organs.
  • Students will obtain and apply knowledge of the self, others, and social systems to solve psychological, socio-cultural, and biological problems that influence health and well-being.
  • Students will develop critical thinking to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Students will demonstrate proficiency in quantitative reasoning and apply it to describe or explain phenomena in the natural world.
  • Students will work collaboratively in scientific inquiry to integrate and synthesize information, solve problems and formulate research questions and hypotheses; use the language of the sciences to participate in the discourse of science and explain how scientific knowledge is discovered and validated; acquire the skills to become life-long learners.
  • Students will demonstrate oral and written communication skills, to effectively convey knowledge to others in an informative, respectful, and socially responsible manner.
