Library & Technology Services



Library & Technology Services (LTS) is here to assist you with all your library research and technology-related questions and issues.  LTS provides state-of-the-art information systems to faculty, students, and staff. Each York College student is assigned a network account, which also serves as their YCP email address. This provides access to the MyYCP portal (my.ycp.edu), YCP Gmail and Google Apps, YCP’s Learning Management System, campus printing, and Library services, including research assistance.

We offer eight general purpose computer labs, 45+ specialty labs, 1900+ computers and 140+ smart classrooms with projection systems and multimedia equipment to complement learning. Computers and printers are also available throughout the campus for students. All residence halls include full wired and wireless internet access for personal devices, and cable TV.

Acceptable Use

York College of Pennsylvania’s computers, computer systems and networks are intended for college-related purposes. Appropriate use of computers and information networks includes adherence to the normal requirements of ethical and legal behavior in the college community. The acceptable use policy is in place to protect the College, its faculty, staff, students (and their privacy) from electronic and legal harm resulting from improper use of information technology. Under this policy, users of Information Technology have many responsibilities; some include your responsibility to register your network device, to use anti-virus software, and to follow all applicable college policies. Users who violate this policy may be denied access to College computing resources and may be subject to other penalties and disciplinary action, including possible expulsion or dismissal. Personal Web Page Policy

York College provides an open web server space and managed web space for users to post content, but also be aware that the College is not liable for the data or service. The quality and accuracy of the information published on these pages should foster a positive and engaging image of the College as much as possible. The web page policy has been established to assure that the goals and reputation of the College are upheld. All users and pages are expected to comply and conform to this policy. When a complaint is raised about a page or the page has a negative impact on York College’s computing system, the College has the authority to remove the page. Users who violate this policy may be denied access to College computing resources and may be subject to other penalties and disciplinary action, including possible expulsion or dismissal. Password Policy

Passwords are an important aspect of computer security. As such, all York College employees and students are responsible for complying with this policy to select and secure their passwords. The password policy is in place to establish a standard for creation of strong passwords, protection of passwords, frequency of change, and resetting of passwords. Some of the policy’s standards include not using the same password for York College accounts for other non-York College access, not sharing York College passwords with anyone, and treating all passwords as confidential information. Keep in mind that the York College IT Department with never ask you to reveal your password. Users who violate this policy may be denied access to College computing resources and may be subject to other penalties and disciplinary action, including possible expulsion or dismissal. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) Compliance Policy

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act amends federal copyright law to provide certain liability protections for online services when their computer systems or networks carry materials that violate copyright laws. York College of Pennsylvania is required to have a policy under which violating computer accounts will be terminated if they repeatedly infringe the copyright works of others in order to qualify for liability protection. Some of these Copyright infringements could include downloading movies, music, and illegal file sharing.   Compliance with federal copyright law is expected of all students, faculty, and staff at York College. Copyrighted work may only be used with the owner’s permission or qualify for a legal exception (such as “fair use”). Copyright violations are in violation of the College’s Acceptable Use Policy. Violators may be referred to the appropriate disciplinary procedure or referred for criminal or civil prosecution. York College reserves the right to terminate computing services of users who repeatedly infringe upon the rights of copyright owners. Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) Compliance Policy

H.R 4137, the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA), is a reauthorization of the Higher Education Act. It includes provisions that are designed to reduce the illegal uploading and downloading of copyrighted works through peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing. This policy outlines York College’s plan to comply with these requirements. Measures taken to combat the unauthorized distribution of copyrighted material include currently employed bandwidth-shaping technology to prioritize-network traffic. The amount of bandwidth available to P2P applications is limited but not filtered. Annually, York College’s Information Technology policies team will meet to review the effectiveness of the copyright plan. Email Usage and Retention Policy

This policy provides the rules and requirements for the secure use and management of email and is designed to outline the various responsibilities that email users have. The email policy is in place to protect the College, its faculty, staff and students from electronic and legal harm resulting from improper use of information technology. York College may monitor messages without prior notice, but administrators will not read email unless necessary. Users who violate this policy may be denied access to College computing resources and may be subject to other penalties and disciplinary action, including possible expulsion or dismissal.
